Tall Tree Perspective

The Roots of Sabino

The sabino tree, also known as the Montezuma cypress or ahuehuete, is Mexico’s national tree and is a symbol of strength, resilience, and growth.

I chose this symbol because, regardless of our culture or background, we all have roots that shape who we are—our family, experiences, values, beliefs, and community. Some roots help ground us, while others may need to be understood, healed, or transformed.

Just as a tree grows stronger when its roots are cared for, I believe healing begins when we understand our story, reconnect with ourselves, and build a more secure foundation for the future.

Hello, I'm Ani!

My name is Anahi (aa-na-ee) — Ani for short — and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a BSW and MSW in Clinical Social Work from the University of Wyoming. I was born in Mexico, raised by immigrant parents who gave me everything they had, and shaped by a life that taught me early on that healing is not linear.

Growing up, I experienced generational trauma firsthand. I watched patterns repeat in my family that no one had words for, wounds carried quietly from one generation to the next. I also grew up with ADHD — though I didn't know it for a long time. As a woman, the traditional DSM criteria didn't reflect my experience. So instead of answers, I got self-doubt. Instead of support, I internalized the belief that I wasn't good enough, wasn't trying hard enough, wasn't enough, period.

I know what that feels like. And I know how much it changes when someone finally helps you understand why.

Then in 2020, at 25 years old, I had a heart attack. It stopped me in my tracks — literally — and became one of the most transformative moments of my life. It led me to dive deep into nervous system healing, somatic therapy, and polyvagal theory — not just as clinical tools, but as a personal path back to myself.

So when I talk about generational trauma, ADHD, attachment wounds, or nervous system dysregulation — I'm not speaking from a textbook. I'm speaking from experience. These are the areas where my personal and professional worlds meet, and where I believe the most powerful healing happens. I'm chill, easy-going, and genuinely honored every time someone trusts me with their story. I've learned that no matter how much I know, my clients always have something to teach me too.

Outside the therapy room, you'll find me in the Wyoming wilderness with my fur babies — Georgie, Archie, and Daisy — close to family, and soaking up everything this beautiful place has to offer.

This is not my job. It is my calling. And I am so grateful to offer this work to the diverse, vibrant community of Jackson Hole and beyond.
